Fishing In The Fish Market
Here you are. Surrounded by pre caught fish with their mouths hanging open and ice on their bellies. You may be in a really big fish market or a small one but regardless, you stand there. You have a fishing rod, a net and a smile on your face as you say “I am a fisher of men.” Then, you cast your rod into one of those boxes of fish and lay back waiting for “God’s work” to be done. Sounds silly, but there are many of us who have fallen into what I call “The Fish market bubble.”
The Fish Market Bubble
I have a job that many Christians have judged me for. I am a bar tender at an Irish Pub (a very good one at that), but I am out in the depths of the proverbial sea. I am out there shedding love and being a light in the darkest of places. Many people come to me with a lot of pain and are in need of an answer. They turn to what many do, alcohol. I serve them their drink and if the Holy Spirit opens a door, take them to the well of living water. Being a bartender has opened my eyes to a lot. When you’ve been a missionary for as many years as I have and you’ve had the privilege to meet great names in the faith like Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, Richard Roberts, A.E Adeboye, Dag Heward Mills and many more you can become wrapped in this “Fish market bubble.” My goodness I was engulfed in it for some time!
Surrounded by caught fish! Surrounded by people who already know the love of the Father. We give alter call after alter call and wonder why nobody’s coming up? The fish are caught, gutted and iced! We sit in our temples of self righteousness and say “Oh how well we’ve done.” We fill our fish markets with fish from other fish markets and just put our fresh fish on display. Christians… enough’s enough! We’ve become lazy. An inactive church is a church that gossips, judges and creates a stagnant stench that keep away anyone hoping to become a part of the greatest family on earth.
So how do we Tell them?!
Well, Do you work? Do you go to the gym? Do you play golf and finish up at the 19th hole? Are you part of a rugby or football club? Then you are surrounded by people who are looking for a light and an answer to their greatest question. Won’t you be that one? Won’t we, The Redeemed, be the ones who go out and surround ourselves by unlit candles to spread that light of truth and love?
Matthew 28v19 says plainly “GO!”
Let us go! Let us be the spark that starts a fire of Love that spreads in the most unchurchy of places. Get out of the fish market.
